She was born in Alabama to a hearing-impaired parents, Louise after winning Oscars for the first time got too emotional and delivered one of the most memorable and touching speech in the history of Oscars.

Fletcher after holding her Oscar in the year 1976, she addressed the audience with a gentle smile: “It seems like everyone hated me, but in the end you all helped me in getting this award. It has been a really challenging journey throughout but I have loved every part of it. In the end I would just like you to say thank you for hating me”.

With tears filled in her eyes, she mentioned her deaf parents in Alabama, she used sign language to deliver a heartfelt message to her parents: “I am really grateful that I was as your Daughter, thank you for everything you taught me and motivating for never giving up no matter how tough the challenges were, because in the end if you work hard dreams to come true”. Right after her speech got over, there was thundering applause from all across the hall.

During starting days of her acting career, after few movies she had to give up acting for looking after her children. Then eventually after her 40s she returned back to acting and director Forman casted her for “Cuckoo’s Nest”, and after that she never looked back in her career. She went on to act in many movies and was admired by legendary directors. Later on, Robert Altman cast her in “Thieves Like Us“..At that moment Fletcher knew very little, as many well-known actresses like Ellen Burstyn, Anne Bancroft, Angela Lansbury had already gave up that offer by Robert.

She recollected this in 2004 while giving an interview to the Associated Press. She said “Until that time i didn’t knew that i was the last actress to be cast for that movie. Not before we were halfway through the completion of the movie that I got to know that this role was already offered to many actors before and they didn’t accept it as it was weird according to them.”

But later on the movie turned out to be great, and even after 45 years of its release it inspired Ryan Murphy who made a series “Ratched” that was loosely based on Thieves Likes Us which streamed on Netflix. Sarah Paulson played the lead role in the series alongside Finn Wittrock, Cynthia Nixon, Sharon Jones and Jon Jon Brones.
